Love Data Week with ICPSR

Thank you for joining us at the 2025 Love Data Week!

Love data week 2025, February 10th to 14th, 2025

Join ICPSR for Love Data Week, February 10-14, 2025! This year’s theme, “Whose Data Is It, Anyway?” explores data ownership versus usage. Data collected by groups such as researchers, governments, companies, or organizations may be owned, shared, published online, or combined. This year’s theme helps us remember to consider where the data came from before using it. Use this theme to have fun with data games, teach about data literacy, or talk about being responsible when dealing with important data issues.

Registration is open for ICPSR-specific Love Data Week activities! Sign up for ICPSR Announcements to receive up-to-date information on events and more. Webinar recordings will be available on the 2025 Love Data Week playlist. Watch last year’s sessions on the 2024 Love Data Week playlist.

Want to join the fun but not sure how to do so?

We’ve created ready-to-use activities and resources, such as data scavenger hunts (good for all levels), a prewritten blog post, and “Caption the Chart,” to name a few. Access these resources at the Shareable Resources & Toolkit.

Activity: Adopt a Dataset

Looking for a simple, quick, fun way to participate in Love Data Week? Adopt a dataset! In this virtual activity you’ll be asked to visit ICPSR, search for data on a subject you’re interested in, and download the data to your computer. It’s that simple!

ICPSR’s Adopt a Dataset program is free and open to the public until 5 p.m. EST on the last day of Love Data Week. Researchers, nonprofit staff members, undergraduate students, and anyone else who wants to learn about data is encouraged to adopt a dataset from the list below.

What does it mean to adopt a dataset?

Adopting a dataset is kind of like adopting a pet, except less messy. Get started by reviewing the list of datasets below to find something of interest to you. Fill out the Dataset Adoption Form, and then download, analyze online, or just review the summary information for your adopted data. Your role is to bring your dataset to life by learning about the information it contains and to share the information you’re learning through email, social media, virtual meetings, and more.  Use the images and templates below to get started.

When you fill out your Dataset Adoption Form, you can expect to feel warm fuzzies and a deep sense of pride. You’ll receive a digital Certificate of Adoption and, if you choose, your name will appear on the Adopt a Dataset Wall of Honor, along with others who have adopted their own datasets.

Browse the list of available datasets below.

To adopt a dataset, choose from the datasets below and fill out the Adopt A Dataset form.

* Note: Some files in these collections may have special restrictions; click on the Restricted Data button to learn more. Documentation and/or data-related publications are available to explore.

Share the good news with ready-to-use social media content, images, and the Wall of Honor.

Already adopted a dataset? Look for your name on the Adopt a Dataset Wall of Honor!

Share the good news on social media: Copy/paste any of the messages below, fill in the blanks, and send.
