ICPSR Annual Report: FY23 in Review
The Consortium had a dynamic fiscal year, spotlighted by cultural celebrations and academic advancements. ICPSR provided invaluable resources for Pride Month and Juneteenth, alongside the impactful ICPSR Summer Program. ICPSR supported the LGBTQI+ Data Inclusion Act and received $50K in AWS credits to enhance the Social Media Archive (SOMAR).
ICPSR’s efforts extended to data literacy, supporting new bipartisan legislation and partnering with TIND to build a new social media data archive. The Consortium also guided researchers on meeting new NIH Data Sharing Requirements and celebrated Women’s History Month and Latine Heritage Month with extensive data resources.
Other significant achievements included hosting data on social media’s impact on the US 2020 elections and making available comprehensive data from College and Beyond II. ResearchDataGov streamlined data requests across 16 federal agencies, marking a pivotal improvement in data access.
Finally, ICPSR toasted its 60th anniversary, recognized recipients of the inaugural Piper Simmons Data Contributor of the Year Award, and received an award to aggregate and disseminate a one-of-a-kind dataset documenting public library programming outcomes.

Financial Report
ICPSR closed fiscal year 2023 with revenues totaling 26.5 million, representing a 29-percent increase from fiscal year 2022. Membership income decreased 1 percent from fiscal year 2022 at $4.5 million, contributing 17 percent of the organization’s total revenue. Sponsored project awards contributed $18.0 million, accounting for 69 percent of ICPSR’s revenue. Summer Program revenue was $1.8 million for fiscal year 2023. ICPSR’s overall expenses were $26.5 million, a 22.7 percent increase from fiscal year 2022. The organization closed fiscal year 2023 with an operating surplus of $194 thousand. As of June 30, 2023, ICPSR maintained a total fund balance of $9,759,706.

The ICPSR Research Paper Competition announced its transition to the ICPSR Data Communication Scholarship in November 2023.
Summer Program
The 2023 ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research had an incredible and successful year. The curriculum continued a hybrid instruction format for a majority of our courses, allowing participants to learn in-person or online, synchronously or asynchronously. Among highlights:
- 90 courses
- 993 participants, representing nearly 30 countries
- 61 graduate students were employed as teaching assistants
- 50 ICPSR scholarships were provided to students in a variety of disciplines.
- 40 diversity scholarships were provided, totaling $180,000 in support.
