Warren E. Miller Scholarship
A scholarship fund has been established in honor of Warren E. Miller, the founder of the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) and the ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research.
The Miller Scholarship is a waiver of registration fees to attend a single session (either the First Session or the Second Session) in the General Sessions of the ICPSR Summer Program. Recipients of the Miller Scholarship will also receive free on-campus housing (in a University of Michigan student dorm) and free on-campus meals. Recipients of the Miller Scholarship will be expected to attend their courses in-person in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The Miller Scholarship is open to pre-tenure scholars, assistant professors, and students conducting research on electoral/political behavior. USA-based and international scholars are welcome to apply.
Applicants should have professional interests in one or more of the following areas of research (or in related fields):
- Developing a common approach to understanding electoral behavior within or across nations
- Understanding the process of democratization in electoral systems
- Understanding the link between global politics and local electoral behavior
- Understanding how context influences political behavior
- Understanding how globalization causes change in political behavior
The following application materials are required:
- A current curriculum vitae
- A 1-page cover letter describing your research interests and how participation in the ICPSR Summer Program will support your educational, research, or career goals. You must specify which General Session (First or Second) you would like to attend and which Course(s) you would like to take.
- One letter of recommendation from faculty. Letters of recommendation should be 1 page in length, and include the length of time the recommender has known the applicant and the nature of their relationship. The recommendation letter should also include the applicant’s academic and research achievement, background, and potential, citing current examples of the applicant’s course and/or research work as evidence of aptitude, ability, and commitment that will carry the applicant forward into a significant research career.
